The village of Tamarin is well-known for its salt pans as the dry and hot climate is ideal for salt making. Salt production dates back to the French colonial period. Nowadays, the salt pans are not operational and the area has been developed for housing and amenities.
Highlights
Île aux Benitiers lies off La Gaulette which is found on the western coast of Mauritius and includes a larger island with coconut plantations and a smaller one known as Îlot Benitiers. The main islet usually has colonies of migratory birds.
